Een gezin uit het Amerikaanse Kirkland in Ohio heeft een dochter, Erin, die aan leukemie lijdt. Alhoewel het onder controle leek, bleek bij een onderzoek dat het toch weer de kop had opgestoken. Na dit bericht liep Erin in de tuin en werd door een vriend van het gezin gefotografeerd. Tot ieder's stomme verbazing kwam daaar de volgende foto uit tevoorschijn.
Achter het meisje op de foto zie je een gestalte die er in het echt niet was en die volgens de moeder van het kind, Jen Potter, niemand minder is dan de maagd Maria. Op het moment dat de moeder de foto zag wist ze dat alles helemaal goed zou komen en dat Maria over hun kind waakte. Kort na het nemen van deze foto onderging Erin een beenmergtransplantatie.
Ook de vader van Erin, Kevin, was er rotsvast van overtuigd dat het de Heilige Maagd Maria was. Hij zei, “Ik weet dat ze niet alleen is. Ook dat wij niet alleen zijn en als er mensen zijn die dat niet willen geloven, prima. Wat er ook gebeurd is, je weet dat wij op dat ogenblik omringd waren door iets moois en heel krachtigs. Ik heb ook momenten dat ik helemaal uitelkaar val en door de grond ga van angst, maar dan pak ik mijn telefoon en kijk naar die foto.Na de beenmergtransplantatie blijkt dat Erin op dit moment volledig kankervrij is.
A family from Kirkland, Ohio got a supernatural shock over the weekend when they were looking over photos of their young daughter and noticed a familiar figure hovering near her. Jen Potter believes that the ghostly apparition captured in the image is none other than the Virgin Mary, looking over their daughter Erin, who was battling cancer for the third time. "My reaction immediately, it's Mary, they hear us, she's there. I didn't necessarily see it as a sign that Erin is fine and is going to walk out of this, but it's a sign that we're watching over her." Jen told 19 Action News on Friday. Erin was diagnosed with leukemia in February 2007 and since gone through numerous bone marrow transplants. When the miraculous photo was taken, she was about to undergo her second transplant. When asked about the skeptics (whose rather shameful lack of sympathy, compassion, and tact can he seen in these Huffington Post comments) who would cast doubt on the vision that gave the Potter's hope during their emotional medical battle, Erin's father Kevin remained resolute in his belief. "I know she's not alone, I know we are not alone and people who don't want to believe it, that's OK," he said. "Whatever happened, you know something powerful and special was there with us I definitely have my moments when I'm falling apart and I'm terrified and I literally grab my phone and I stare at that picture."
